Sex And Your Pelvic Floor
I have just come to the end of another of my Pelvic Floor courses. It was FREAKING EPIC!
Covid hit back in March and it gave me the kick up the ass I needed to start delivering it online and make the adjustments to the course and totally upgrade it.
Sex would often arise in previous courses (got to love a pun!) How could it not really, hey!
Some time ago not long after I qualified to teach Pelvic Floor health, I clearly remember one lady in her 50’s sharing that she’d never had an orgasm, and me thinking, I know I can help you but I hadn’t yet created the space with in the workshop to do that at that time.
I felt really sad about that and obviously gave her some resources after but knew that needed to change that at some point in the future. I also wanted to empower women that perhaps weren’t courageous enough to speak up as she had done that day, with out me creating and holding the space to do so.
Previously on the Pelvic Floor course I taught the science behind the Pelvic Floor and the exercises which do give really great results but I always felt something was missing, and wanted to include the other modalities and skills I know are so transformational. The holistic approach I use with all my work.
When we experience trauma, not just sexual, it can be any kind. Or fear., unprocessed grief and heart break. Judgment from ourselves and others and feeling shame, we hold all of that in our body.
In fact there is a study that tracked the fear response in women’s body’s when watching a horror movie and the pelvic area specifically responded to being in fear in a negative way.
So if you’ve experienced any of the above in your life, which lets face it many of us have on different levels at some point, your body will be holding on to that feeling or emotion as energy with in the tissues.
Also women often play down bad experiences that happen to them in life as they feel others go through worse, or even subconsciously as a way of self protection. So it’s unprocessed emotion is lingering in the body and manifesting as physical symptoms, plus depression, stress and anxiety.
As a side note I want you to know that what you feel, is what you feel. It doesn’t matter the sources or if you think others ‘have it worse’. Trauma is what it feels to you. As is fear, grief, sadness or any other emotion within you. It’s important to recognize and honor those emotions and not play them down. I can’t say that enough!
I re-wrote the course to incorporate sex, desire and orgasms to open up the conversation plus the powerful aspects I find in holding sharing circles, meditations, energy healing.
There’s mixed studies on whether improving your pelvic floor health improves your sex life.
What I know is that in the courses I’ve taught before I officially included sex it in the workshops, women noticed a difference in their enjoyment and commented on it.
In the most recent course where its been an official topic and included in the workbook, the feedback has been phenomenal. Blow my mind phenomenal! With ladies saying they’ve had an “orgasm for the first time in years” and the most powerful orgasm’s” that they felt “liberated” and saw their “body "differently for the first time”
The women attending my courses vary widely in age from late 20’s to 65+ so that really is quite something.
Plus everyone reports they feel more connected to their bodies and more confident.
I hear this time and time again.
What I do know, regardless of whether studies do or don’t recognize the link is my ladies do.
The combination of understanding how their body works, tightening the pelvic floor, building confidence by stopping urge and incontinence and the need for pads. Having relief from symptoms of prolapse and helping women reconnect with their body with love by holding space for them and using the tools I share during Pelvic Enlightenment enables then to enjoy sex again. Some times for the first time in years.
NEXT COURSE
If you struggle with your pelvic floor health the next course starts Monday 14th July at 1pm. All classes are recorded live in case your unable to make them live, plus you have layers of support from myself, the workbook and Facebook support group so your surrounded by a sisterhood of women just like you all supporting each other.
The course is 7 sessions over 6 weeks and covers everything from, how to correct make a pelvic floor contraction (it’s likely not how you think it is with a quick squeeze up at the sink or in the supermarket cue!) to sex and desire, bowel conditions and of course all forms of incontinence and bladder issues. I’ll teach you the correct exercises for your specific needs which will change your life! No exaggeration :O)
