Life Coaching FAQ'S
WHAT IS LIFE COACHING ANYWAY?
I have to be honest and say that I struggle with the label of life coach. I find it a bit American well, if I’m totally honest pretensions.
However, I think its a term that people are really getting used to in the UK now and Life Coaching really is a phenomenal tool, for helping you get your shit together so the name doesn’t really matter.
Here’s a few frequently asked questions that will give you clarity on what Life Coaching really is, and if its the right tool for you right now.
WHAT IS A LIFE COACH?
A Life Coach is someone that helps you find clarity from uncertainty. Helps you discover why you may feel stuck, procrastinate and are unable to take action towards goals. A coach will help you feel more confident and empowered to go after dreams and desires or discover new ones.
A Life Coach will help you explore your potential and ambitions in many areas of life. From Business and Careers, your body & well being, Motherhood to Sex and Relationships and everything in between.
IS LIFE COACHING THE SAME AS COUNSELING?
No. The only similarity with Life Coaching and Counselling is that both are a talking tool.
The ICF - International Coach Federation, defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential’.
In Life Coaching you, the Client are the expert in your life.
My job as a coach is to take you through a journey of self discovery, to hold you responsible and accountable for what you find out about yourself, goals, dreams and desires along the way.
Its to help you create a skill set that increases productivity and effectiveness, to move you away from procrastination and towards those goals, dreams and desires.
In Coaching we tend to focus on the present and future instead of the past, though occasionally the past comes up. The past isn’t an out of bounds subject, sometimes its useful to reflect on the past if it helps move you forwards, but its not the focus of of coaching sessions.
Counselling generally aims to solve problems by understanding what happen in the past where as Life Coaching is nearly all future focused.
IS LIFE COACHING THE SAME AS MENTORING?
No, mentoring is where someone tells you what to do. Life Coaching is very much a partnership.
HOW DO I CHOOSE A LIFE COACH?
That’s such a personal question. Most importantly its about feeling like you can really connect with your Coach. The most successful partnerships are based on total trust and you’r ability to be totally open so you get the most of your sessions.
Some coaches do have specialist areas and skills you may be more draw to depending on what your wishing to work on.
I can help you with many areas of life from career changes and starting a new business to changing to a healthier lifestyle. I have a huge passion for helping women through sex and relationship issues having over come a lot of trauma myself. I also combine Life Coaching in the traditional sense with my skills as an energy healer and intuitive/clairvoyant. I will always ask your permission before sharing any guidance I am being asked to give you from spirit, to ensure you’re comfortable with that before hand.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A COACHING SESSION?
During a coaching session we will meet online via Zoom (a little like Skype or FaceTime but its a pre scheduled meeting)
Sessions typically last between 45 minuets and an hour.
During the session your coach will ask questions about what you’d like to get from the session. Its your choice what you work on in each session. You will never be forced to speak about anything your not comfortable with or make choices that don’t feel right. All sessions are completely confidential so you can feel totally safe in what you do choose to share with your coach. We are bound by a strict ethical code of conduct so you can explore your thoughts and feelings with confidence.
Your coach will reflect back what your saying to help you gain clarity, they will offer up feedback, support and accountability to keep you moving forward.
ARE LIFE COACHES QUALIFIED?
In the UK Life Coaching is an unregulated profession which means anyone can call them selves a coach. So its really important that you check your coaches credentials.
Many coaches offer a free taster session or clarity call so you can find out more about each other and ensure your a good fit which is so important before you part with any money.
I chose to do my qualification with Lydia Kimmering from The Happiness Explorer, who offers an ICF accredited certification.
What that means is that I have gone through strict training, mentoring and assessment to ensure I am coaching at a high standard with a qualification that is recognized internationally through an international governing body. I am currently a certified Life Coach and working towards ACC level and aim to have achieved that by Autumn 2020.
