How Gong Sound Baths Help With Stress
I am a firm believer in approaching life holistically. Mind, body soul.
On my journey to healing trauma I dived in to finding practices and ways of being that meant that I was living with more balance and working to health from the root up. Sound healing is one of those. gongs in particular as they are just so powerful.
I wanted to share with you some of the benefits of Gong Sound Baths. When I first used to think of the gongs I used to think of a horrible sound that was clanged in some kind of comedy sketch and even some old films springs to mind. That was before I experienced them. The Gong sound bath couldn’t be further from that imagining.
It’s an incredible sound when played well. I am a huge fan of the practitioner I use, Jo Burchfield-James.
Gongs can create profound shifts, help with reducing stress, and deeply grounding experiences. Every experience is different and for every person. from completely blissed, to euphoric to emotional. I’ve even had clients say they experienced sexual awakenings during the sound baths.
WHAT ARE THE BENIFITS OF A GONG BATH?
In terms of the Gongs these are the benefits from attending a gong bath.
According to Mitchell Gaynor, M.D. Oncologist and Clinical Professor of Medicine:
“Sound enters the healing equation from several directions: It may alter cellular functions through energetic effects; it may entrain biological systems to function more homeostatically.”
What that means is that everything is made from vibrations, the cells in our body’s vibrate. When the sound from the Gongs enters the body the vibrations help reset the body so its able to move towards functioning in a state of equilibrium.
Attending a Gong sound bath is conducive to healing and transformation.
Induces a state of meditation by calming the mind
Helps to recover after illness, traumas and invasive medical treatments
Creates a state of relaxation and release of tension
Physically, it releases blocks and tension in the body and stimulates the glandular, nervous and circulation system. It also increases our prana, our life force
Helps clear emotional and energetic blockages
Strengthening of the immune system
Helps to stop the monkey mind chatter
Regenerates the parasympathetic nervous system
Awakens higher levels of consciousness
Bathes you in a cascade of healing sounds — claims to shift the brain from waking (Beta) state to Delta or Theta (meditation) through the vibrations of the instruments
I love to use Ceremonial Cacao during the Gong Baths I hold as it helps us to connect with the energy of the heart and deepens the experience further. It is always a choice, and doesn’t distract from the power of the gongs alone.
From a science perspective Cacao benefits are found in the neurotransmitter modulating agents that act as natural antidepressants.
Its high valeric acid content blocks the stress hormones, while triggering the release of dopamine, anandamide and the endorphin phenylethylamine, all of which are known as the ‘bliss molecules’.
Cacao also contains the essential amino acid tryptophan, which increases production of serotonin, an important brain chemical that helps us remain positive and happy. These neurotransmitters also remain in the bloodstream longer after ingesting cacao, creating a natural antidepressant benefit.
In short the Gong Baths create a wonderful re set in your body. They give your body a chance to reset and helps you to come back yourself in a way that is really quite incredible for such a short period of time.
I hold Gong Baths on the Kent / East Sussex border quarterly on the Solstices and on each Equinox. You’ll find them in the booking section of the website.
Next one is Tuesday 21st June 7-8pm. You can book using this link.
Big Love
