Can A Sex Coach Help Me?
Can a Sex Coach help you?
A sex coach, more specifically a Somatic Sex Coach like myself, can help in many ways.
We can help expand your pleasure by finding out more about your needs, desires and sexuality. It can help you transform your relationship with your self, your body, with your sexuality and ability to feel pleasure and how to communicate your needs and desires.
Somatic means “relating to the body, especially the mind”
Soma means “relating to the body”
Somatic Sexology is the study of sexuality from an embodied perspective.
Rather than just focusing on your thoughts and the mental aspects like a sex therapist or councillor would, Somatic Sex Coaching, sometimes known as Somatic Sexology, Somatic Sex Education or Sexological Bodywork, helps people feel more and connect more to their bodies in a way you probably haven’t before.
We work with a mix of methods to help you start to notice whats happening in the body. Integrating traumas, life events and emotions stored in the body and explore and expand pleasure.
As a result this has a profoundly positive impact on the nervous system and ultimately health and well-being.
Somatic Sex Education helps support the neural pathways in service of finding new ways of being. Grounded in Dr Betty Martins Wheel Of Consent. Bringing the body back ‘online’ with receptive parts of the nervous system which supports agency and the ability to make decisions around your own body. Establishing what your true ‘yes’ and ‘no’s’ and expansion of pleasure and embodiment, empowering people to understand and be able to communicate their wants, needs and desires.
As a result this enables us to be more ourselves which support us coming back ‘online’ , radical acceptance and sense of safety and kindness with ourselves.
The methods used in a Somatic Sex Coaching sessions use a client centered approach and are co created with an educational focus. Working with the objectives that the clients brings.
Thought there are many techniques and tools practitioners can draw on and share with the client, being client centered means that they are secondary to the educational agreement made between client and practitioner. Dr Betty Martin explains here that the choosing is more important than the doing.
Many people find that the only conversations they have about sex, pleasure and intimacy are with partners which can be very loaded.
During sessions you would be supported with non judgment and radical acceptance, free from any emotional baggage, religious dogma, and cultural limitations.
Sessions are held outside of attraction facilitating the exploration of arousal in a neutral way. It enables us to explore with curiosity helping the student become aware of their body as a source of wisdom.
Helping people access and make use of a variety of erotic states is a foundation of this work.
Each practitioner will work slightly differently but all sessions are lead by the student and sessions are co-created together and form an educational agreement to empower and educate the student from the outset.
Working with Trauma
As Somatic Sex Educators we work closely with trauma specialists and psychotherapists to support the integration between body and mind.
We are trained to recognize the difference between what is useful and appropriate to do and work with in sessions and if there is a need to refer out student on. Any qualified practitioner facilitating this work will be trained in trauma informed practices and will be able to make recommendations if they feel they need to make a referral for any requirements outside of their remit.
The word trauma is one I use broadly as it can mean different things to different people. Trauma is widely present in society and comes up especially with in this realm of coaching.
I believe all feelings and emotions are relative regardless of the cause. So often we suppress things for many reasons from fear, shame, thinking we don’t have it that bad, self judgment or judgment from others and a million other reasons.
